How much Mo Salah would need to earn at Besiktas to become the highest paid player in Turkish history

With his 2026 World Cup over, Mohamed Salah has turned his attention to finding his next club.

For a long time, the Saudi Pro League were heavily linked with a move for the Liverpool icon.

More recently, talk of Salah moving to the MLS has emerged, but it now appears as though talks have been held with Besiktas.

So, given he has spent the last 12 months as the Reds’ highest-earning player, there may well be a chance he becomes the new highest-earner in the history of the Turkish league, a record which is currently held by Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen (€360,577-a-week).

Is Mohamed Salah Liverpool’s greatest EVER player?

Mohamed Salah would need to earn over £300,000-a-week to overtake Victor Osimhen

After signing a new Liverpool contract in 2025, Salah managed to net himself £400,000-a-week in his latest contract.

He has ripped that deal up in order to leave Anfield a year earlier than he expected to, but it would not be surprising if the winger was now demanding close to that sum from his next club.

There have been mixed reports about Salah joining Besiktas online, but it does appear that, at the very least, talks have taken place.

Whether he ends up moving to Turkey remains to be seen, but he would only need to earn just over £306,000-a-week to overtake Osimhen as the Super Lig’s highest-paid player ever.

Former Liverpool players to play for Besiktas

Should the two parties come to an agreement over Salah, he will become the fourth player to feature for Liverpool and Besiktas.

Ryan Babel became the first to do so after notching 125 appearances for the Reds.

Former goalkeeper Loris Karius made 65 appearances for the Turkish outfit on the back of what was an ill-fated spell at Anfield.

Elsewhere, now Celtic midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain featured for Besiktas on 44 occasions after he departed Liverpool.
