Liverpool fans know that one player will be returning to Anfield as a world champion this summer, with new signing Victor Munoz set to face off against Alexis Mac Allister in the World Cup final.
The win will arguably be more meaningful to Mac Allister, who has once again been a key player for Argentina, but after delivering a disappointing season with Liverpool, the No. 10 is currently not the most popular Reds player.
Munoz, meanwhile, hasn’t played a minute for Spain, but it would still be a huge boost for the 23-year-old to arrive on Merseyside with a World Cup winners’ medal in his back pocket.
What has been holding Alexis Mac Allister back at Liverpool recently?
Maybe Andoni Iraola can get more out of him 🤔
With two strong choices to pick from, Rousing The Kop asked readers on social media to pick who they will be rooting for between Munoz’s Spain and Mac Allister’s Argentina.
Liverpool fans split on World Cup final allegiances
Though some may expect Liverpool fans to support Spain, given Argentina knocked England out, local Reds supporters are not especially wedded to their national team. In fact, some actively choose to support whoever is playing against England.
As a result, when asked for who they’ll be backing on RTK‘s Facebook page, fans were very split between Spain and Argentina.
“I really hope Spain win the World Cup,” said one fan. “Argentina all way, back to back,” wrote another.

“Last time Spain won the World Cup, stars left Liverpool, we had a bad spell and settled for Carabao cups and FAs,” someone else added, providing a different spin. “So naaaaah. Argentina should win it. Spain is a bad omen.”
“Must be Spain,” another supporter wrote, while someone else disagreed, stating: “Argentina, you got this.”
Over on RTK‘s X page, fans debated the merits of the two Liverpool players who are set to be involved for their nations.
“Munoz doesn’t deserve a medal he ain’t played a single minute,” one supporter commented.
“Macca deserves it,” agreed somebody else.
Which ONE player from the 2026 World Cup would you love to see Liverpool sign? ➡️✅
Overall, though, while fans are seemingly happy to see either Munoz or Mac Allister take the trophy, there is a slight preference for Spain.
Given the history of top Spanish players featuring for the Reds – and the fact that the current manager, and one Champions League-winning former manager, are also from the nation – adds to the feeling that there is more of a resonance towards La Roja at Anfield.
