Felix Nmecha is among the midfielders being looked at by Liverpool in the 2026 summer transfer window.
Interest in Nmecha emerged last month, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid also thought to have been keeping tabs on the player.
All of the aforementioned sides could do with strengthening their midfield this summer, especially Liverpool, and signing the German would certainly go a long way to doing that, as he can operate as a six, eight and in the 10 role.
How high should Liverpool go to sign Bradley Barcola from PSG?
Maybe Liverpool would be better off signing two or three €50m players…
Felix Nmecha’s versatility could be crucial for Liverpool
Nmecha began his youth career on the books of Manchester City before eventually ending up at Borussia Dortmund.
For a time, he worked with ex-Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin, who was BVB’s assistant manager before stepping up into the head coach role in 2024.
While working in Germany, Sahin had high praise for the now-Reds target and explained what a versatile midfielder he is.
He said: “I can only judge him based on the last ten or eleven months. But I think he has everything, he has an exceptional profile for a midfielder. He can play in the number six role, but can also play at number eight and ten.
“Now he needs to take the next step. And then we’ll have a really good midfielder for the next few years. As a coach, you want players like that.”
This suggests he is just the type of player Liverpool need this summer, given a number of their current options in the centre of the park are facing uncertain futures.
Wataru Endo is out of contract in 2027 and was already a fringe player across 2025/26 prior to his injury.
Elsewhere, it is possible that Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister leave in the coming months.
Liverpool’s midfield was already lacking depth, as shown by Ryan Gravenberch and Mac Allister having to play basically every minute in 2025/26.
Losing one or two of the aforementioned names would increase that problem further. But Nmecha could easily come in and fill the void no matter which star leaves, as he clearly has all the tools required to play as a six, eight or 10.
