Every Liverpool player currently earning more than Dominik Szoboszlai as contract update emerges

Dominik Szoboszlai was probably Liverpool’s best player during the 2025/26 season, but his current wage does not really reflect that.

Talk of Szoboszlai signing a new contract at Anfield first emerged at the beginning of this year, before it was then suggested that the Hungarian superstar could hold off on signing a contract with the Reds for a while.

Now, a fresh update on his situation has emerged via the Echo, who say that the versatile midfielder ‘remains in talks over a new deal at Anfield’ and there is ‘a determination on both sides to extend the agreement’.

Which Liverpool youngster will make the biggest impact under Andoni Iraola and become a first-team member?

Dominik Szoboszlai earns less than half of Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool

Real Madrid have been linked with the former RB Leipzig talent already this year, and after such an impressive 2025/26, it would make a lot of sense for Liverpool to tie Szoboszlai down to a fresh deal as soon as possible.

He is under contract on Merseyside until 2028, but given his current wage, it seems obvious that the Reds need to offer him a lot more if they are to convince him to stick around for the foreseeable future.

A report from Hungary earlier this year claimed Szoboszlai could demand £300,000-a-week to stay at Liverpool.

Whether there is any truth in that claim remains to be seen, but such a figure would put him near the top of the Reds’ highest earners, which he probably should be based on last season.

According to Capology, the 25-year-old takes home £120,000-a-week or £6.24m-a-year on his current deal.

However, there are nine players still at the club who earn more than him:

That means Szoboszlai is one of the lowest earners from the players who started regularly during the 2025/26 season.

Only Jeremie Frimpong (£100,000-a-week), Milos Kerkez (£75,000-a-week), Joe Gomez (£85,000-a-week) and Curtis Jones (£50,000-a-week) are taking home less, and the latter two of that quartet were not even starting every single game like the Hungarian.

It is hard to imagine Liverpool making him their new highest earner, of course, but given he was called the Reds’ best player by multiple parties last term, it does feel like a big wage increase is needed.
