Gilberto Mora has been one of the breakout stars of this summer’s World Cup after starting three matches on Mexico’s run to the last-16.

For keen Rousing The Kop readers, however, the teenager should not be a new name, with RTK exclusively revealing Liverpool’s interest in Mora in September 2025.

The then 16-year-old was being tipped to catch the eye at the World Cup even then, and though Mexico were beaten by England on Sunday, Mora certainly enhanced his reputation over the past month.

Once again, this has led to links with Liverpool, and the Daily Mail have relayed news that the Reds could sign Mora by triggering his £20m release clause this summer.

Liverpool could sign Mora for £20m

Though he could not prevent Mexico from losing on Sunday, Mora still managed to catch the eye with his movement, composure on the ball and link-up play with his teammates.

It should not be a surprise to learn that he is being watched by the likes of Liverpool, with the Mail confirming that the Reds have joined the list of interested clubs.

And while they do not corroborate the news themselves, they report that ‘Mexican outlets’ have revealed his release clause with Tijuana to be a relatively low £20m.

English clubs cannot sign players from outside of the UK until they turn 18, but, as Chelsea have shown many times in recent years, that does not stop them from reaching an agreement for a future transfer.

Liverpool have been on a youth recruitment drive this summer having already brought in Colombian youngster Samuel Martinez, as well as several homegrown talents as well.

He would obviously be a bigger-name addition, and could even go straight into the first-team if signed, but Mora would be a great signing as part of the Reds’ vision for the future.

Given the state of the market right now, £20m would not be a ridiculous price to pay for a youngster as talented as Mora looks to be, and Liverpool should be seriously looking into this before Tijuana are able to remove, or increase the clause.
