Liverpool were already checking in on the situation of Lucas Bergvall months before he made it clear to Tottenham that he wants to leave.

As The Athletic reported on Sunday, Bergvall has told Spurs that he would prefer to make a move this summer, with ‘strong interest’ now present from clubs in England and across Europe.

Liverpool could be looking for a new midfielder before the new season, and it was reported back in February that the Reds have Bergvall on their radar.

Liverpool were named as Bergvall suitors

Though he has not always shone during his two-year spell at Tottenham, Bergvall is likely to receive interest from some top clubs this summer.

Still only 20, the Sweden international has big potential, and was seen as one of the most promising young midfielders in world football when he joined Spurs in 2024.

Having fallen out of favour last season, though, TeamTALK claimed in February that Liverpool were keeping tabs on Bergvall’s situation heading into the summer.

The Reds were described as having a ‘background presence’ at the time, and with the Swede now set to be available, perhaps this could turn into something more concrete.

Fabrizio Romano names likely Bergvall price

Signed for only £8.5m, Spurs will make a handsome profit on Bergvall whatever they sell him for this summer.

However, the youngster’s now public desire to leave will likely shave a fair chunk from his value.

Back in February, it was suggested by Swedish media that a fee of around £57m may tempt Tottenham into a sale.

However, speaking to his YouTube channel on Sunday, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that this figure is likely to have dropped a little.

“£45m or £50m could get the deal done,” he said. “Several clubs are already on alert, he could be an opportunity on the market for sure.”

Bergvall would need to step up and show a little more than he has done at Tottenham over the last two years, but with his potential clear for all to see, and with Liverpool already credited with an interest, this could be one to watch.
