Liverpool stepped up their efforts to sign Yan Diomande on Thursday as they tabled a €100m bid for the forward.
RB Leipzig promptly rejected the offer, with journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming that it may take as much as €120m to lure the Ivorian away.
While that seems like an awful lot to pay for a player with barely two seasons of senior football under his belt, German reporter Philipp Hinze has revealed that Liverpool do plan to come back at Leipzig with a second, improved offer.
How impressive has Yan Diomande been at the 2026 World Cup?!
Liverpool will make improved Diomande offer
It is a sign of just how out of control the current transfer market is that Liverpool are not able to sign a 19-year-old with 57 senior appearances to his name for less than £100m.
Nevertheless, that is the situation. And although it has been reported that the Reds have four viable alternatives to Diomande, it is clear that the teenager is the player they want to replace Mohamed Salah.
As a result, Hinze has claimed that Liverpool are expected to return in an attempt to negotiate further with Leipzig.

“Liverpool are set to come back soon with a better offer for Yan Diomande after seeing their €100m package rejected (90+10),” he said.
“Reds are already informed about Diomande’s personal terms and expect no complications there, provided a deal with RB Leipzig is agreed. So far, Paris Saint-Germain have not submitted a bid.”
Adding to the story, Romano claimed that while €120m is seen as the magic figure at the moment, that could still increase with good performances from Diomande at the World Cup.
“RB Leipzig want more than €100m as still try to keep him – understand €120m could be the way… for now, based on WC performances too,” he said. “Leipzig expect PSG and more clubs to join the race.”
The message to Liverpool is clear: either pay up, or the price could get even worse, and somebody else will be prepared to pay it. The Reds appear determined to land their man, though, and it will be fascinating to see how high they are willing to go to get him.
