Liverpool are expected to have an active summer transfer window, with it now looking likely that a midfielder will be signed.

For much of 2026 so far, the focus has been on finding a replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Yan Diomande continues to be linked heavily during the World Cup, but a midfielder is now also being looked at by the Liverpool transfer chiefs.

Liverpool making calls for midfielders

Speaking on his YouTube channel on Tuesday morning, Romano said he’s expecting movement in the centre of the pitch.

He also mentioned how the futures of Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister need to be watched.

Romano stated: “What’s happening at Liverpool? What’s going to happen at Liverpool? Two things I wanted to tell you. The first one on Liverpool, in midfield, there could be movements at Liverpool. I will not be surprised if Liverpool go for a new midfielder in the summer transfer window.

“It’s a possibility Liverpool are making some calls for midfielders over the recent days and weeks. So I expect movement at Liverpool in terms of midfielders.

“Then let’s see what happens with the future of Mac Allister. Let’s see what happens with the future of Curtis Jones wanted by Inter. So we have to see also in terms of exits what’s going to happen but Liverpool are checking the midfielders market.”

What midfielder could Liverpool sign?

Romano did not mention a specific midfielder that Liverpool are looking at right now.

But we have already seen a few names linked with an Anfield switch in recent months.

It has been reported previously that Adam Wharton is a dream target for the Reds, with a potential price tag of £80m.

The same update said that Kees Smit of the Netherlands and Archie Gray of Tottenham Hotspur were also options for the Merseyside outfit.
