Andoni Iraola’s arrival at Liverpool could change the course of several careers, with those not afforded chances under Arne Slot now hopeful of a reprieve.

One of the players perhaps most pleased to see the back of Slot was Federico Chiesa, who was rarely given opportunities to start with the Dutchman in charge.

On Friday, Chiesa claimed that he was planning talks with Iraola before deciding whether or not to stay at Liverpool, but according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the early expectation is that the Italian will leave.

Should they make a new signing after all?

Chiesa expecting to leave Liverpool this summer

Though Chiesa played more during his second season at Liverpool than his first, the campaign still brought just one Premier League start for the 28-year-old.

Understandably, he wants to play more, and though Iraola joining could give him a second wind, Romano says that the people close to Chiesa are expecting that he will leave this summer.

“Today Federico Chiesa spoke in Italy and said I want to play on a more consistent basis. So, the expectation is for Federico Chiesa to leave Liverpool this summer,” the journalist told his YouTube channel. “That’s the expectation, that’s the plan.

“Then he said ‘I want to go on tour to the US, speak to the new manager, Andoni Iraola, to understand my situation. But I want to play, I need to play.'”

“And so, Federico Chiesa could have opportunities to leave Liverpool and the expectation of those close to the player is that he could really leave after being close to leaving in January.

“Now could be the moment to say goodbye to Liverpool.”

Romano updates on Curtis Jones to Inter Milan

Chiesa also spoke to the Italian press regarding Curtis Jones’ proposed move to Inter Milan.

Following his comments, Romano provided another update on the progress of that particular deal, with Inter still yet to get anywhere near Liverpool’s valuation of the Scouser.

What role do you see for Federico Chiesa under Andoni Iraola at Liverpool?

Should he be given a bigger role as the Reds look for new attackers?

“Chiesa was asked about Curtis Jones and Inter, because Inter are very interested in Curtis Jones,” he said.

“They are talking to Liverpool, they are starting at 20 million Euros, Liverpool want more than 30. Maybe inducing a sell-on clause, maybe including bonuses, so there is still a big gap between Inter and Liverpool, but the deal is on. The player is keen on the move.

“Today Chiesa said ‘Curtis Jones asked me how is life in Italy’, so for Inter it would be an excellent signing. It’s going to be a very interesting situation.”

As things stand, it looks more likely than not that Liverpool will lose Chiesa and Jones to add to the already confirmed departures of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate.

With plenty of work to do already in the transfer market, the Reds must be careful about letting too many leave.
