Ibrahima Konate will reportedly leave Liverpool in the next month having failed to agree terms on a contract extension.

The Frenchman has been locked in talks with the Reds for months on end, with a departure becoming more and more likely as the season wore on.

The lack of an official exit announcement ahead of last week’s final game of the campaign offered hope that an agreement could still be reached. However, journalist Ben Jacobs broke the news on Thursday night that Konate is now expected to leave.

Has Konate lived up to his potential, or does he leave having not quite reached it?

The Daily Mail have since corroborated those claims, and have suggested that Liverpool‘s No. 5 is most likely heading to French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Konate ‘most likely’ to join PSG

Earlier in the season it had looked almost certain that Konate would follow Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

However Madrid distanced themselves from a move for the 27-year-old in January, leaving question marks over where he could leave Liverpool for.

PSG have regularly been mooted as a potential destination over the years, although Luis Enrique’s team are fairly well-stocked at centre-back.

Nevertheless, The Mail claim that it is indeed PSG who are ‘most likely’ to snap Konate up on a free transfer.

Beyond the club of his home city, it is difficult to see what other options Konate has going into the summer.

Madrid will not be at the table, while Bayern Munich have gone big on renewing the contract of his national team colleague Dayot Upamecano.

A Premier League stay could be a possibility, and that is something that would sting Liverpool fans, although for the time being, it appears that PSG are leading the way. They have the small matter of a Champions League final to play first, but once that is out of the way, it would not be a surprise to see this accelerate.
