Crystal Palace’s plan for ‘dream’ Liverpool target Adam Wharton following Conference League triumph

Liverpool are expected to make some big changes to their midfield department during the 2026 summer transfer window.

Curtis Jones to Inter Milan looks more likely following Richard Hughes’ recent meeting with Inter Milan.

Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo could leave as well, and in turn, Adam Wharton has been identified as a ‘dream’ target. However, Crystal Palace would now like to offer the Englishman a new contract.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Crystal Palace want Adam Wharton to sign new contract

The Eagles secured their second major trophy within the space of a year on Wednesday night, winning the Europa Conference League.

On the back of that, a couple of different outlets have made it clear that Palace are keen for Wharton to agree fresh terms.

One Sky Sports reporter has said: “Crystal Palace want to try and convince Adam Wharton to stay for one more season. He’s had the heartbreak of missing out on the England World Cup squad. But he’ll feel boosted this morning by winning another major trophy for Crystal Palace.

“They had 60 matches this season and they could have a similar number of matches next season now they are playing Europa League football. They’d love to keep the core of the squad together.”

Meanwhile, the BBC claim that the Eagles are in a ‘strong position’ to keep hold of Wharton and ‘are open to offering’ him a new contract.

The 22-year-old, who is also said to have interest from Manchester United, is under contract at Selhurst Park until 2029.

With Arne Slot expected to stay, will Liverpool challenge for the Premier League next season?

Or will it be another difficult campaign? 😬

Liverpool’s alternatives to Adam Wharton

Should Wharton stay at Palace or move elsewhere this summer, a couple more midfielders have already been linked with a Liverpool switch.

In the aforementioned update that said the Crystal Palace star was a dream target for the Reds, Kees Smit and Archie Gray were also mooted as potential options for the Merseyside outfit.

Gray was able to avoid Premier League relegation with Tottenham Hotspur this year, which may now make a transfer more difficult.

Elsewhere, Rio Ferdinand thinks that AZ Alkmaar’s Smit should be signed by Manchester United following his impressive 2025/26 in the Netherlands.
