Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande is stepping up as the 2026 summer transfer window nears.
The Reds will need to add fresh legs to their forward line now that Mohamed Salah is leaving and Federico Chiesa could depart.
In turn, using Diomande in his natural right-wing role would make a lot of sense, but Liverpool think he could be an option off the left as well.
You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?
Who should Richard Hughes be targeting above all…
Liverpool think Yan Diomande can be a left winger
In 2025/26, Cody Gakpo was the main left-wing option, but Liverpool fans hit out at the Dutchman several times across the season.
Rio Ngumoha then began to feature towards the back end of the campaign due to injury issues, but it is hard to see Arne Slot playing him week in, week out.
But if Diomande arrives, he and Ngumoha could become the primary players for that role.
However, as Ben Jacobs has explained, signing the player will depend on RB Leipzig’s asking price.
He stated: “Liverpool view Diomande as a strong fit, and capable of playing both sides.
“Key to any deal will be Leipzig’s asking price, which is currently at around €100m. Leipzig would ideally like Diomande to sign a new deal, but haven’t discounted a sale.”
That’s how it all ends, Reds. What are your biggest concerns about this season?
And are there any positives to be found?
Bradley Barcola to Liverpool update
Diomande scored 13 goals for Leipzig this past season, with all of those goals coming when he started on the right.
But even if the Ivorian is used in his preferred role at Anfield, Liverpool have other left-wing targets in mind.
Jacobs also shared an insight into the Reds’ potential move for Bradley Barcola and their historic interest in Anthony Gordon.
He continued: “Bradley Barcola another target if PSG open the door to an exit. Not a given, but PSG stance could soften if they find a replacement.
“Liverpool have a historical interest in Anthony Gordon, who almost joined in summer 2024, but it is Bayern who remain in talks. Arsenal another club who appreciate Gordon. As revealed in March, Liverpool are likely to sign either two wingers, or one and a more versatile attacker.”
