The transfer window is not officially open until June, but Liverpool have already agreed their first deal.

Under FSG, the Reds have made a habit of signing young prospects in the hope they can be turned into world-class talents.

We saw that in January, with moves being completed for the likes of Jeremy Jacquet and Mor Talla Ndiaye, and now, Samuel Martinez is the latest prospect set for an Anfield switch.

FSG would be crazy to keep Arne Slot if Liverpool lose to Brentford… right?

13 Premier League defeats would be more than Brendan Rodgers’ last full season!!

Liverpool agree deal for Samuel Martinez

Journalist Matteo Moretto broke the news on Friday afternoon via X/Twitter.

It is understood that the likes of FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund were interested in the teenager, but Liverpool have won the race.

However, he will not sign the mooted five-year contract with the Merseyside outfit until he turns 18.

Moretto explained: “Samuel Martinez, the young Colombian prospect of Atlético Nacional, will become a new player for Liverpool.

“The parties are finalizing the documentation to close the negotiation. The deal will be closed for around one million euros, and the Colombian club reserves % of a future sale.

“When the attacking midfielder turns 18, he will sign a five-year contract with Liverpool. Liverpool has outbid other major European clubs such as Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Who is incoming Liverpool player Samuel Martinez?

As mentioned, Martinez is currently on the books of Colombian outfit Atletico Nacional.

He is part of their U20 set-up and has also received a call-up to the Colombia U17 team.

Martinez made his international debut in April and has so far notched six appearances at youth level for his country.

The 17-year-old is an attacking midfielder by trade but can also play in a slightly deeper midfield role.
