Mohamed Salah’s comments about Liverpool’s poor 2025/26 season have caused much debate over the last week.
Wayne Rooney was not happy with Salah for his comments suggesting the team need to go back to playing ‘heavy metal football’.
Jamie Carragher was similarly angry with the Liverpool winger, while Sam Allardyce has now called for FSG to ban the player.
Should Arne Slot drop Mohamed Salah from the squad to face Brentford? 👀
A sour end could be in store…
FSG should ‘ban’ Mohamed Salah
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, the former Premier League manager was asked for his thoughts on the 33-year-old’s social media activity in recent days.
Like Rooney and Carragher, Allardyce did not agree that Salah was in the right and suggested the Liverpool owners should ban him.
He said: “If you’re gonna say it, say it when you’ve left. Don’t say it when you’re still there, as if you’re bigger than the football club. If I were the owners, I would ban him. I’d go, ‘Who do you think you are? You’re not bigger than this football club.’
“[Slot] has brought him back from the spat he had before and he’s still been —- this year. He’s been —-, for what he was and what he used to be and what he did last season, he just hasn’t done it. He should be looking at himself and how bad he’s been this year.”
Is a fifth-place finish enough to warrant Arne Slot remaining Liverpool manager?
FSG risk Liverpool fan uproar with Mohamed Salah punishment
While many pundits seem to think Salah was out of order for his post, he should not face any punishment at all.
Whether he did it for selfish reasons or to get back at Slot for dropping him earlier this season is irrelevant.
Nothing Salah said was incorrect, and it’s hard to find too many fans who would actually disagree with his statement.
And leaving the Egyptian out for his farewell game against Brentford would only anger supporters, who have already given up on Slot, even more.
