Stan Collymore makes damning claim about Liverpool’s display in lifeless Aston Villa defeat

Former Liverpool player Stan Collymore believes the Reds put in their worst ever performance at Villa Park on Friday night.

Although they have a fairly decent record away against Aston Villa, Liverpool have suffered in the West Midlands at times, infamously losing 7-2 to the Villains under Jurgen Klopp.

But although that will forever go down as one of the Reds’ most embarrassing defeats, Collymore has claimed that Friday’s dismal 4-2 defeat was an even worse performance.

Who was Liverpool’s worst player on a terrible night at Villa Park?

The challenge here is to pick only one!

Collymore slams Liverpool performance

There truly was nothing to redeem Liverpool from what became one of their worst nights of a nightmare season on Friday.

Collymore could see it, and although he is a former Red, the 55-year-old is also a boyhood Villa fan, and so had a fairly unique vantage point with which to see the game from.

What he saw, according to a post on X at the full-time whistle, was Liverpool’s worst ever performance in front of the Villa supporters.

“As a former Red, and having watched too many Liverpool masterclasses at Villa Park (and played in a couple), that could be the worst Liverpool performance in B6 I’ve seen,” Collymore said.

“And I’d include the 7-2 in that. No idea what the team is trying to do and that’s a very, very rare thing to say about any Liverpool team.”

Arne Slot is slowly piling up nightmare statistics as the season draws to a close, with every week seemingly reaching a new nadir.

The only small mercy for Liverpool supporters is that there is only one game left of this dismal campaign left to endure.
