Liverpool have already identified the perfect replacement for Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez’s future at Anfield seems uncertain beyond the 2026 summer transfer window.

The versatile defender has been in and out of the squad this season due to persistent injury issues, and with one year remaining on his Liverpool contract, he has been coy about his future in an interview this week.

In turn, the Reds may need to sign a similar profile player in the summer, and Arsenal’s Ben White could be the perfect option.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

What has Joe Gomez said about his Liverpool future

Gomez arrived at Anfield in 2015 from Charlton Athletic when Brendan Rodgers was still in charge.

He has since made 272 appearances for the club and provided 12 assists, but when asked if he had any thoughts on his future in an interview this week, the Englishman did not rule out an exit.

As per Sky Sports, he said: “No. I think anything can happen. I don’t know is the honest answer.

“I’ve only got a year left so I don’t know, but whatever is meant to be will be, I guess.

“But I’m so grateful to have had this time here at this club. I’ll always be grateful to have had 11 years at a place like this. All I can do is be thankful and we’ll see.”

Liverpool already have interest in Ben White

When Gomez was signed, he was initially brought in as a centre-back and does still offer cover in that position when needed.

However, he has been used as a right-back more frequently in recent years, making him a valuable squad player when fit.

There are not a lot of players who can perform equally well in the centre and out wide in a back-four.

But one such player who has done so for a while now is White, who may be leaving the Emirates in the summer.

A report emerged in March which claimed that Arsenal could reluctantly sell the defender in the next window if the right offer comes in.

Crucially, it was added at the time that Liverpool were one of the clubs monitoring the situation closely.

Given the Reds’ problems at right-back this season and a lack of experienced centre-back depth behind Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, the latter of whom could still leave for free, adding White to the squad would be a wise move from the Reds.
