Liverpool look set for a shake-up in midfield this summer, as question marks arise over the futures of Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister.

Neither player has been on top form this season, and with transfer interest likely to arrive, there have been suggestions that both players could leave.

As Liverpool ponder the right replacements to help them mount a Premier League title challenge next season, journalist David Lynch has shared which of Jones or Mac Allister fans should most expect to depart in the coming months.

Jones more likely than Mac Allister to leave

Given they are not exactly blessed with options as it is, Liverpool cannot really afford to lose Jones as well as Mac Allister. It should be one or the other.

Speaking to The Redmen TV, Lynch suggested that while Liverpool may actually decide to sell them both, it is Jones who is virtually certain to go, with Mac Allister’s exit much more dependent on the kind of offers that may arrive for him.

“My expectation is now that he will leave,” the reporter said on Jones. “It was clear to me in January speaking to people that the player was very keen to move to Inter Milan, which painted a clear picture about where the player’s up to.

“I think Inter Milan are going to come back in, maybe interest from elsewhere as well.”

On Mac Allister, Lynch claims that the picture is a little more murky, but confirmed that while he is more likely to stay than his midfield colleague, that does not mean the No. 10 will definitely be around next season.

“My understanding is that Liverpool aren’t in contract talks with Mac Allister, no plans to extend,” he said. “I think his representatives, including his father, are very respectful, they don’t want to make noise about him moving on, but it does feel like a possibility. My concern is how big of a market there will be for him.

“There is real potential for him to go, but I wouldn’t hang my hat on it as much as I would with Curtis, who I do expect to leave.”

Though many supporters will be disappointed to see Jones leave, the timing does now feel right for everyone involved. And as long as Liverpool go out and replace him with another player who could potentially push Mac Allister out of the regular starting XI, there is no harm in keeping the Argentine around instead.
