Liverpool’s interest in Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi is growing ahead of a possible free-agent switch.

The defender has decided against renewing his contract with the Cherries and will be out of contract from June 30.

Liverpool are among the clubs linked to Senesi already, but it is understood that the Reds have now stepped up their pursuit of the stopper, who would prefer to remain in the Premier League.

Liverpool step up interest in Marcos Senesi

Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, journalist Matteo Moretto shared an update on Senesi’s future and said Liverpool are strongly in the race now.

He stated: “We’re talking again about Marcos Senesi, the Bournemouth centre-back whose contract expires in June. We’ve discussed him many times. He won’t renew and will leave on a free transfer – Bournemouth already know this.

“I had already mentioned quite clearly here that Senesi would stay in the Premier League. There has been and still is some interest from Italy, but he will remain in England. I’m told—and it’s confirmed 100%—that the Argentine defender’s intention is to stay in the Premier League.

“He’s been performing very well at Bournemouth. His career was slowed by some significant injuries, but once he regained fitness and form, he’s shown all his quality in the Premier League.

“Senesi will stay in the Premier League, and beyond the two clubs I already mentioned—Chelsea and Tottenham, especially Tottenham, Liverpool have also entered the race quite strongly in recent days. So keep an eye on Liverpool, because they’re expected to make new contacts for Marcos Senesi.

“As for Italy, it’s not really a concrete option right now.”

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Marcos Senesi move could hint at Ibrahima Konate’s future

To learn Liverpool are taking a more active approach for Senesi could be seen as a positive by fans.

Perhaps he is being looked at as a great budget pick-up with plenty of Premier League experience.

But with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet set to be at the club from next season, Liverpool would already have four natural centre-backs plus Joe Gomez.

Perhaps having a fifth option may not be the worst idea in the world after the injury issues Arne Slot has faced this season.

But it may also be a hint that Liverpool are not confident Konate will sign a new deal. The Frenchman was thought to be close to penning fresh terms last month, but there has been no update on that situation since.
