Liverpool could let a number of players leave the club during the 2026 summer transfer window.

Rousing The Kop recently noted eight players who could depart before the start of next season.

Among them was Curtis Jones, who has been linked to Tottenham Hotspur and more clubs amid his contract running out in the summer of 2027.

If a new deal is not offered, a sale in the next transfer window would make the most sense from a financial perspective, but Jermaine Pennant thinks Jones should be offered a new deal.

Liverpool urged to keep Curtis Jones amid uncertain future

Liverpool are losing senior figures Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah this summer.

There is a chance Alisson Becker leaves as well, while local lad Trent Alexander-Arnold moved on in 2025.

Jones is one of the few local players left in the first team, and Pennant thinks his ties to the club and his versatility mean he should stay put.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “We should keep him just for his versatility, it’s great. You can put him anywhere in the midfield or at right back. You need that.

“He’s a local lad, he knows and loves the club and he can help a lot of the players understand certain things as well.

“Ultimately, the last few games, he’s been phenomenal – one of the top performers.

“So, we should offer him a contract because this squad is dwindling. There are a lot of key players leaving and you need to keep the core. He’s a local lad and we have already lost Trent [Alexander-Arnold].

“Offer him a contract, and ultimately, it’s up to him if he wants to go somewhere where he can play week in, week out, but all the club can do is offer.”

What Curtis Jones wants in order to stay at Liverpool

Jones has been in and out of Arne Slot’s starting XI over the course of the 2025/26 season.

He has returned to the team in recent weeks, but has mainly been used in a right-back role.

Jones is open to staying at Liverpool this summer, it has been reported in the last week.

But it is thought that the natural midfielder wants to become the ‘main man’, which he currently isn’t, sitting behind Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch in the pecking order.
