Liverpool are planning to improve their midfield in the 2026 summer transfer window and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is an option.

It emerged last week that the Reds are looking at three central midfielders, with the England international described as a ‘dream midfield acquisition’, and potentially carrying an £80m price-tag.

He was joined on the list by Kees Smit and Tottenham Hotspur’s Archie Gray, and has now been asked about rumours regarding his future this week, saying it is a compliment.

What’s stopping Liverpool from posting another BIG win at Old Trafford on Sunday?

Liverpool target Adam Wharton speaks on transfer rumours

Manchester United are thought to like Wharton as well, but it remains to be seen where, if anywhere, the Palace ace will end up moving once the summer transfer window comes to a close.

On that front, the midfielder has remained tight-lipped when asked about big teams showing an interest in his services.

As per Sky Sports, Wharton said: “Obviously the praise is good and being linked with big clubs it’s obviously a compliment in a way.

“As much praise as you get, there’s also the other side of it where other people don’t think you are doing very well or other clubs don’t want you because they don’t like this thing about you.

“I don’t really pay attention to it. I know that I’m doing well. The coach will tell me. To them, they’re the ones who can have the biggest impact on me and help me develop my career.

“The outside ones, I don’t really focus on it. I just try to focus on myself. “

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

The midfielders Liverpool could sell in 2026 summer transfer window

While the Reds may be on the lookout for a new midfielder, a few names could depart this summer to make way for the fresh legs.

It was suggested last week that three Liverpool players could be allowed to move on.

They are Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo, the latter of whom was hardly featuring prior to suffering an injury earlier this year.

Endo’s exit may make some sense given his age and lack of playing time in 2025/26, but Jones has impressed for Liverpool since being handed a more prominent role at right-back in recent weeks and is one of the few home-grown options available to Arne Slot.
