Mohamed Salah may be approaching the end of his Liverpool career, but he’s far from done with competing at the top level.
Even during a season in which his performances have not always reached the ridiculous standards he has set for himself, the Egyptian has managed 12 goals and nine assists. That is high-level output by almost anyone else’s standards.
Unsurprisingly, there is no shortage of interest in this free agent. Saudi Arabia has long felt like the obvious landing spot, while MLS clubs and sides around Europe have also been linked. Now, Fenerbahce are the latest club to enter the picture, and Salah has reportedly made his wishes clear.

Mohamed Salah wants to stay in Europe when he leaves Liverpool
The Saudi Pro League has long seemed like a natural fit for Salah. He would command enormous wages, he is one of the most popular footballers in the Arab world, and they have been eyeing a move for years.
But it may not be quite that simple. According to a report from A Spor, Salah is not yet done with the idea of competing in the Champions League.
Reporter Erdem Akbaş claims that Ertan Torunoğulları, acting on behalf of Fenerbahce, has already held ‘two meetings’ with Salah’s agent.

The report adds that the Liverpool star ‘expects’ a salary worth €20 million — around £330,000 per week — and most importantly, ‘he wants to continue his career in Europe.’
For a long time, the assumption has been that Salah would eventually take the enormous offer waiting for him in Saudi Arabia once his time at Anfield reached its natural conclusion.
Instead, this suggests he still sees himself as a Champions League-level player. Given his numbers, he has every right to feel that way. The team’s struggles have not done him any favours this season, either.
Fenerbahce would be an intriguing option, especially if they can satisfy his wage demands, but they didn’t make it into the Champions League this season, going out against Benfica in the play-offs last August. That feels like a non-negotiable for a player with so many options.
They are not the only Turkish club to have been linked, though. . This comes just weeks after Galatasaray were credited with interest in Salah.

Of course, the finances will be difficult for almost any European side. A £17 million salary is still a huge commitment, even for clubs with Champions League revenue.
From a Liverpool fan perspective, there would be something nice about seeing Salah remain in Europe. If this really is the end, then watching him continue at the top level would feel more fitting than seeing him disappear from the biggest stage altogether.
