What top Liverpool officials are saying about ticket prices after recent protests at Anfield

Liverpool’s on-pitch exploits have left fans largely frustrated this season, but developments behind the scenes with FSG’s ticket pricing have been equally contentious.

The club is in a good spot financially, and has been for a few years. That’s why FSG’s plans to raise ticket prices at Anfield have gone down like a lead balloon with Liverpool fans.

During Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace, there was a coordinated effort to show the ownership just how unpopular their decision is with the fanbase, but it seems it hasn’t had the desired effect.

FSG not budging on ticket prices amid Liverpool fan protests

As much of a statement as the demonstration at the weekend was, it hasn’t moved the needle within the club’s hierarchy.

They will ride the storm and stick to the plans in place.

Liverpool reporter Lewis Steele told Anfield Index: “”I don’t think Liverpool are going to back down from this decision, just from the noises that I’ve heard from inside the top offices at Anfield, and I think the fans are going to have to step up the protest if they want them to change their minds.

“Right now as it stands, it feels like they’re going to sit tight and it comes on a weekend where at least two Premier League clubs I’ve seen frozen ticket prices. City and Palace, and maybe others as well that I’ve missed, and it’s not a good look really.”

It really isn’t a good look. In a season where fans have had to show incredible patience to stay behind this team, rewarding that loyalty with a price hike just stinks of greed.

This isn’t the last we’ll hear of this. There will be more action against the decision.

As Steele points out, though, it will take more than what we saw on Saturday to get FSG to rethink their decision.

FSG are playing a dangerous game with Liverpool fans

The relationship between the owners and the fanbase has generally been quite smooth in the FSG era, but that has a lot to do with the success the Reds found on the pitch.

It doesn’t mean they have a free pass to disregard supporters who are being priced out of their biggest passion — watching the football at Anfield.

Especially with the instability around the team, now is not the time to be creating rifts. It dramatically increases the likelihood that the vibes will sour quickly whenever there’s a dip in form if the relationship between Liverpool fans and the owners continues to be tested.
