With Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool career coming to an end, a debate has started over whether he is among the greatest Premier League players of all time.

Since the turn of the century, no Reds star has come close to matching Salah’s goal return for the Merseyside outfit.

Darren Bent has now named his top-five all-time Premier League players, based on their stints in the English top flight, and ranks the Liverpool winger just below Wayne Rooney and Thierry Henry.

Wayne Rooney and Thierry Henry named better than Mohamed Salah

Speaking to talkSPORT in the wake of the Salah departure news, Bent was asked to pick his top five.

Interestingly, he said that Cristiano Ronaldo was below the Liverpool icon, as was former Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

Bent also gave a special mention to Steven Gerrard despite the ex-Reds skipper not making his list.

He said: “Number three, Salah. He has been great. And listen, I know there’s going to be arguments about this because, like I said, I wanted to get Stevie [Gerrard] in there because I think Stevie is in there.

“I think Frank deserves a shout, Frank Lampard, because he’s got the highest goal-scoring midfield player of all time. So they’re special mentions as well. Giggs special mention as well. Aguero, Bergkamp of course. But yeah, I’ve gone Salah at three.”

Is Mohamed Salah Liverpool’s greatest EVER player?

Rooney, Henry and Salah’s Premier League stats compared

During his time with Manchester United and Everton, Rooney managed to outscore and provide more assists than Salah.

He is the Premier League’s third all-time top goalscorer with 208 strikes compared to the Egyptian’s total of 191.

The former England international also has the fourth-most assists (103) compared to Salah’s 93.

However, Rooney made a total of 491 appearances in the Premier League, whereas the Liverpool hero has, so far, featured in the competition on 323 occasions.

As for Henry, he managed 175 goals and 79 assists in 275 games during two spells with Arsenal.
