Helsingborg centre-back Demba N’diaye has admitted he’d love to play for Liverpool as the race to sign him ramps up.

The 20-year-old only joined Helsingborg in January, and has played just twice for the Swedish second division side, but he already has plans to move to one of the world’s top clubs.

During an interview with Swedish outlet HD, N’diaye, as well as Helsingborg manager Stevie Grieve, have talked up the ‘very special’ talent who is keen to join Liverpool.

N’Diaye confirms he’s aiming to play for Liverpool

With Liverpool on the lookout for top young centre-backs this summer, N’diaye threw his name into the hat when asked to name his ambitions for his career.

“To come to a big club in the world. Real Madrid, Liverpool or similar,” he said.

“Play in the Champions League – and win the African Championships with Senegal.”

Despite the centre-back having only played two times for him, Grieve confirmed that he has already been receiving calls about the possibility of a summer move for N’Diaye.

The year is 2030, how much is Liverpool centre-back Jeremy Jacquet worth!? 💰

“I’ve received a couple of phone calls,” the Scotsman said. Clubs will always call me and ask for my opinions on players.

“Some have asked me, A: How did you find him? B: How did you manage to get him? and C: How far can he go? I think he will be good.”

N’Diaye tipped to become ‘very special’

Although it feels a long way in footballing terms from Helsingborg to Liverpool, Grieve is adamant that N’Diaye has the capability to make the leap.

“He is a very good player, incredibly skilled with the ball,” says the coach. “His touch, his composure and his passing game, both short and long, are of a high class. He finds the diagonal ball into the pocket area on the defender’s blind side, which is very difficult for most players to hit, all the time.

“When he hasn’t played you’ve seen the effect it has on the team. Defensively, when he moves up the backline, it’s hard to get in behind him because he’s so quick and athletic.

“I think this is just the beginning, he will be a very special player.”
