Mohamed Salah could etch his name into the history books when Liverpool host Galatasaray at Anfield.

The Reds head into the fixture needing to score at least one goal to take the tie to extra time and potentially penalties.

Liverpool are yet to find the back of the net in two attempts against the Turkish outfit this season, but a goal from Salah on Wednesday would see him become the first African player to score 50 in the Champions League.

Mohamed Salah close to half a century of Champions League goals

The Egyptian’s last European goal came in a 6-0 win over Qarabag in the group phase earlier this year.

He is currently on 49 in the competition, but a goal against Galatasaray will see him reach half a century, becoming the first African player to do so.

Salah already tops the list of top-scoring African stars and is not expected to be caught for some time.

Second-place Didier Drogba has 44 goals in the tournament, but he, along with third-place Samuel Eto’o, have obviously been retired for a while now.

Sadio Mane takes third place (24 for the Reds), followed by Roberto Firmino (23).

Meanwhile, as well as seeing Salah potentially reach 50 Champions League goals on March 18, some other milestones could also be hit tonight.

If he features, which he is expected to, the 33-year-old will move into joint-third on Liverpool’s all-time list of appearances in Europe.

Elsewhere, Cody Gakpo’s next goal will see him become the 58th player to score 50 times for Liverpool in all competitions.
