January signing Mor Talla Ndiaye finally made his debut for Liverpool U21s on Monday after recovering from injury.

There was plenty of excitement surrounding the addition of the Senegalese youngster in the New Year, but he has had to be patient to get out on the pitch.

That moment finally arrived on Monday, when Ndiaye came on for the final 27 minutes during a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City. Commenting on the 18-year-old’s debut after the match, manager Rob Page said he had been suitably impressed.

Page delighted with Ndiaye debut

As Liverpool‘s centre-back options continue to come under scrutiny, Ndiaye looks like a potential first-team player in the future.

Page’s initial thoughts on the teenager appear to tally with that, with the former Wales manager delighted with what he saw from Ndiaye on Monday evening.

“Really pleased with Mor,” Page told The Redmen TV after the 2-0 loss.

“I can only imagine the transition going from where he’s been, the teams he’s played for, to coming into this environment, and he’s done it with absolute class.

“He deserved that tonight. He’s given a great account of himself.”

It is obviously still very early days for Ndiaye, and Liverpool did obviously lose this game, but there is a clear feeling that the Senegal U17 international could be one to watch.

The Liverpool academy has been a fruitful source of bolstering the first-team in recent seasons, and if he keeps doing well, Ndiaye could find himself in the senior picture next year.

It is a good start after a long wait, now it’s time to push on and catch the eye of Arne Slot.
