Alisson Becker has hailed teammate Federico Chiesa for playing an important ‘supporting role’ at Liverpool.

The Italian has had an underwhelming time since arriving at Anfield in 2024, making only two Premier League starts under Arne Slot.

Nevertheless, Chiesa has become a fan favourite thanks to his relentlessly cheerful nature and his clear will to fight tooth and nail for the club. According to Alisson, this translates to the dressing room too, where the 28-year-old is seemingly vital to Liverpool.

Alisson hails Chiesa for selfless nature

With Liverpool’s wide players struggling so much recently, it would have been nice to see Chiesa get a little more playing time than he has. Having said that, the Italy international has not always made the most of his time on the pitch when it has arrived.

Nevertheless, he is clearly still an important member of the Liverpool squad, with Alisson picking him when asked to name the Reds player who ‘keeps everything ticking in the background.’

“A special player in our team who supports me a lot and helps me go further, is Federico Chiesa,” the goalkeeper told the Premier League YouTube channel.

“He brings energy to the team, even when he’s not playing, but when he plays, he always makes a difference to the team, no matter what he needs to do.

“He is a winner for that.”

With Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo in dreadful form, Slot is yet to truly turn towards Chiesa. But whether he ultimately gets his game time or not, it seems the former Juventus man will continue to support his teammates regardless.

All successful teams need squad players who push the starters, knuckle down and fight for their place. Chiesa is the perfect example of that and it is nice to see some recognition come his way.
