As Liverpool prepare for life after Andy Robertson, staff at the club are reportedly still hopeful of a first-team future for Calum Scanlon.
The young left-back made two appearances for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp in 2023/24, before injury derailed him last season.
Having joined Cardiff City on loan in January, though, Scanlon is back playing senior football, and according to journalist Paul Gorst, he still has plenty of fans on the inside at Liverpool.

Scanlon rated ‘really highly’ at Liverpool
Along with Luke Chambers and Owen Beck, Scanlon represents a crop of Liverpool academy youngsters who will be eyeing the soon-to-be vacant back-up left-back spot.
Chambers is doing well at Charlton in the Championship, and although he is currently playing a division lower, Gorst says Scanlon continues to be rated ‘really highly’ at Anfield.
“I know people at Liverpool rate Calum Scanlon really highly,” the journalist told The Redmen TV.

“But he’s just gone to Cardiff who are in League One, so let’s see how he gets on after a pretty lengthy spell on the sidelines with a horrific hamstring injury, I think it was.
“He went to Millwall and had to come back.”
Analysis: Scanlon still has a chance at Liverpool
As Liverpool ponder what to do at left-back next season, Scanlon should certainly be in the picture.
He has started well at Cardiff after such a long time out, and made his first start for the Bluebirds during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Barnsley.

Returning from a lengthy time out, all three of Scanlon’s previous appearances came from the bench, as Cardiff look to ease him back in.
That he is already being trusted to start matches is a big positive, however, and hints at the potential which Liverpool clearly believe he has, too.
Sadly for the 21-year-old, the hard facts are that he does not have a lot of road left in this season to prove to Arne Slot and Liverpool that he will be ready to step in next term.
Still, the position is up for grabs in the next couple of months, and between Scanlon and Chambers in particular, the Reds have options to promote from the academy. There appear to be few question marks over both players’ ability, so the choice may ultimately come down to who can stay the fittest.
