Liverpool at risk of ending Dominik Szoboszlai’s impressive eight-season record in next month

Liverpool’s 2025/26 season has been poor under Arne Slot, and zero success in any competition will be bad news for Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Reds lost 1-0 to Galatasaray in the last-16 on Tuesday, meaning they must pick up a positive result at Anfield next week or be knocked out of the competition.

Similarly, Liverpool are still in the FA Cup but have to get past Manchester City in the next round, and if they fail to do so, it will be the first time in eight years that Szoboszlai will end a season without some form of silverware at club level.

Is it time for Liverpool to move on from Ibrahima Konate?

Would you be too disappointed to see him leave this summer?

Dominik Szoboszlai has won silverware eight seasons in a row

The Hungarian burst onto the scene with Red Bull Salzburg in the 2017/18 campaign and picked up trophies with the Austrian outfit for four seasons in a row:

He then secured a move to German side RB Leipzig, where he again enjoyed much success:

Then, Liverpool signed the 25-year-old in the summer of 2023, and he played three matches in the League Cup in the following season, which the Reds eventually won by beating Chelsea in the showpiece.

Szoboszlai then became a Premier League champion last term, but his growing trophy collection could be halted by this time next month.

Liverpool have to overturn their deficit against Galatasaray before the small matter of going on to win the competition, which they are currently given just a 5.13% chance of doing so, according to Opta.

If they do fail to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, all eyes will be on the FA Cup meeting with Manchester City on April 4.

But the Sky Blues have already taken six points off Liverpool in the Premier League this term, so it may well be the case that their chances of silverware in 2025/26 are over in just three and a half weeks.
