Liverpool future-proofed their striking options in the summer of 2025, with the arrivals of Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike setting the Reds up in the position for years.
But as well as splashing £200m on two first-team stars, Liverpool also quietly added a top talent to their ranks at youth level, plucking Will Wright from Salford City.
Despite being only 17 at the time of his arrival, Wright had already played senior football for Salford, and his signing was seen as another smart piece of business from the Reds.

In January, there were claims that Liverpool coaches have ‘high hopes’ for Wright, and after overcoming a fairly serious injury at the start of the season, he continues to underline that, scoring a lovely goal against Tottenham on Sunday.
Wright could soon be a first-team option
As always with young players, it would be wrong to place too much burden on Wright at this point. It is best to let him get out there and simply enjoy his football.
But there has to be one eye on the future at all times, and against Spurs the 18-year-old demonstrated why he has so many supporters within Liverpool.
His touch to take down Armin Pecsi’s long punt up field was exquisite, and set him up for a one-vs-one run at the Tottenham defender.
There was still plenty for Wright to do as he approached the penalty box, but he did it superbly, showing excellent strength to hold off the defender, before turning expertly onto his left foot.

From there, Wright used the half a yard of space he’d generated by shooting low and early, catching the goalkeeper out at his near post. It was a superb goal which put the cherry on a 4-2 win for Liverpool.
Kieran Morrison has been creating headlines for the U21s recently, and he did so again by scoring twice on Sunday, but in Wright Liverpool quietly have another forward who could soon make an impact in the first-team.

Despite his obvious qualities, Wright has not been especially prolific since joining Liverpool.
His goal on Sunday was only his third of the campaign, but it is worth pointing out that he also has four assists to his name as well.
Seven goal contributions in 14 appearances as an 18-year-old in the U21s is not bad going, and is certainly promising for the future.
Wright is likely to be one of the players given a chance in the first-team this pre-season with many of the senior stars away at the World Cup. On this kind of evidence, don’t be surprised if he continues to prove those backing him to make it into the first-team absolutely right.
