Liverpool supporters have decided that they’d like to see Dominik Szoboszlai, not Mohamed Salah, take a last minute penalty to win them the Champions League this season.

The Reds are on the march to the final in Budapest having been drawn alongside Galatasaray in the round of 16.

So, in light of Friday’s draw, Rousing The Kop asked fans whether they would prefer to see Szoboszlai or Salah step up with the trophy on the line.

The results were incredibly tight, but having assumed some penalty-taking duties this season, fans would like to see Szoboszlai given the responsibility of securing a seventh Champions League win.

Szoboszlai edges out Salah with 51% of the vote

Szoboszlai has arguably replaced Salah as Liverpool‘s most important player this season, and with the Egyptian away at AFCON over the Christmas period, the Hungarian was given the chance to demonstrate his penalty-taking abilities.

Scoring one and smashing the bar with another, it was perhaps not the best audition for Szoboszlai to take over matters on a more permanent basis, but according to RTK readers, he should take the ball in the last-minute of a Champions League final this season.

In a poll which could not have been more narrow, the 25-year-old was selected by 51% of voters, with Salah collecting the other 49%.

Put to readers on the RTK Facebook page, there was a third name thrown into the mix as well: Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine has only ever taken one penalty for Liverpool, scoring against Manchester City in March 2024, but saw a number of fans back him to step up and win the Champions League for the Reds.

Ultimately, it would be a surprise if Salah did not take the spot-kick on what could potentially be the final act in his Liverpool career, and although supporters voted for Szoboszlai, many would clearly be delighted to see the Egyptian King try his luck too.
