Hugo Ekitike is already nine goals away from matching the record for most goals scored by a French player at Liverpool.

The Reds paid Eintracht Frankfurt an initial £69m for the 23-year-old during the 2025 summer transfer window.

Ekitike has since earned high praise from the likes of Wayne Rooney and been compared to Fernando Torres.

How many goals will Hugo Ekitike end up with this season?

He's surely heading past 20

The striker is forming a brilliant connection with Florian Wirtz, combining for six goals already as Liverpool players.

Djibril Cisse is Liverpool’s highest-scoring French player

Should they link up for one more goal in 2025/26, Wirtz and Ekitike will surpass Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard’s record for combined goals in a single season by two Reds players aged 23 or under (also six in 2002/03).

Ekitike, meanwhile, could well set a record of his own during the remainder of the campaign.

At present, the centre-forward sits on 15 goals across all competitions this term, the most of any Liverpool player.

It means he is now just nine away from matching and 10 from breaking Djibril Cisse’s record for most goals scored by a French player at Liverpool (24).

Cisse spent two years at Anfield, signing from AJ Auxerre in 2004 before leaving to join Olympique Marseille after making 79 total appearances.

David N’Gog is the second-highest scoring Frenchman in the Reds’ history, netting 19 goals in 94 matches before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 2011.

Ekitike’s 15 goals put him third on the list, with the remainder of the French stars to find the back of the net for Liverpool below:

With Liverpool still going strong in the FA Cup and Champions League, there is every chance Ekitike breaks that record before 2025/26 comes to a close.
