Rousing The Kop readers demand Rio Ngumoha replaces Mo Salah in Liverpool’s starting line-up

Rio Ngumoha should not be loaned out and instead needs to play ahead of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, according to Liverpool fans.

Ngumoha earned praise from Jamie Carragher after his appearance off the bench against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

The young winger nearly created the opening goal, but Alexis Mac Allister’s effort was ruled out by VAR.

Pick the more underrated Liverpool legend – Roberto Firmino or Jordan Henderson?

Still, Jamie Carragher thinks he did more than Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo all game, and Liverpool fans have shared a similar verdict.

Liverpool fans want Rio Ngumoha to play over Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo

Using Rousing The Kop’s TalkingPoints platform, fans were asked if Ngumoha should be loaned out in the summer in order to get more minutes.

Many were against the idea, instead suggesting he should be featuring more ahead of Salah and Gakpo.

One fan wrote: “No way!!! He is ready, just keep old Egyptian benched. We need Rio’s speed and power.”

A second stated: “No! Keep him and give him more starts, simple as that!”

A third commented: “Rio Ngumoha needs to be starting games instead of Cody Gakpo as he is burned out and does nothing for the team going forward.”

“He is good enough play him regularly, how old was Michael Owen when started in the first team? He is too good to send out on loan,” added a fourth.

A fifth added: “He should not be loaned, drop Gakpo or Salah,” with a sixth echoing: “Why not Salah be benched and Rio plays instead.”

“I keep thinking about Ethan Nwaneri and how his loan is panning out. Difference is, we don’t have enough talent out wide. Could only loan him if a winger comes in I reckon,” said another.

Change my mind Rio Ngumoha was Liverpool’s star man despite barely playing vs Forest

Can anyone take the MOM award off him? Have your say!

Arne Slot explains why Liverpool ‘are so careful with Rio Ngumoha’

Should Ngumoha be starting more matches for Liverpool this season, or at least feature off the bench more? There isn’t really a good reason to say no.

We have all seen Salah struggling, and Federico Chiesa just hasn’t looked great in the last couple of months when he has featured.

Similarly, Gakpo continues to be a point of contention and outside of the Dutchman, Liverpool have no natural left wingers.

However, Slot has urged caution over Ngumoha, seeming to suggest he does not want to cause injuries to the player by overplaying him.

He said: “If I’m correct, [Danns] is one of the players who got a stress fracture because he was young and, from what I’ve been told, was a bit overtrained.

“That’s why we are so careful with Rio Ngumoha, that he’s two days a week off the pitch if that’s possible, to not have that same situation with him.”
