Liverpool are surely in for another summer of significant change in personnel, and fans have reached a near-unanimous verdict on which Scouser they want involved next season.

There were a couple of reasons for this debate to kick off.

Jones has been linked away from Liverpool since January, and those links will only grow between now and the end of the season.

Looking in the other direction, Liverpool have looked at Gordon for quite a while, and his name has been mentioned in transfer discussions as recently as this week.

HYPOTHETICAL: Liverpool can only have one local lad in the squad next season…

Who are you choosing and why? πŸ‘€

We asked which player you would rather have, and users on the TalkingPoints platform, and on Rousing The Kop’s Facebook page, have responded.

This was one of the less divisive polls we have run.

Whether it’s Gordon’s habit of being a menace to Liverpool when he plays them, or the years of loyal service Jones have given, the verdict is resounding.

To summarise that consensus: β€œCurtis all day long, Slot should start in all games, give him a chance before it’s too late.”

In a more emphatic manner, this fan says: β€œJones, he’s one of us. The other one ain’t and never will be.”

β€œWell obviously not Gordon, says another fan, β€œHe would not be welcome at LFC”.

Not everyone is lauding Jones, so much as they have no time for the Newcastle man.

Like this fan, who says: β€œJones if it has to be one, Gordon simply isn’t good enough for the Reds.”

Similarly: β€œCJ he is just more in control of the football & his temper than Gordon.”

There were a couple of dissenters, though.

This fan provides a different perspective: β€œWould love us to sign Gordon, even just as a squad option. It feels right to have the best Scouse players playing for us and he is definitely one of them. If Jones goes it makes it even more of a need.”

And finally, this Gordon-leaning supporter: β€œI’m taking Gordon, only because i think he can give us what we’re missing since Diaz left.”

Gordon is the profile of winger that would make a brilliant squad player. Squad player is the important part there.

As for Jones, it’s clear he still has the love of the fans, though he does seem like a probable casualty of this second phase of the rebuild.
