Liverpool are still yet to officially confirm the signing of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes on Deadline Day.
The Reds have left it very late, but a first-team signing looks set to be finally completed before the close of the winter transfer window.
Chelsea wanted to sign Jacquet, but it now looks as though the centre-back will be moving to Anfield.
Jamie Redknapp loves the signing, while former defender Jamie Carragher thinks Liverpool needed another defender who will actually play this season.
CHANGE MY MIND: This WILL be Liverpool’s best XI after Jacquet arrives!
Jacquet will not link up with the Premier League champions until June 2026, spending the remainder of the campaign back in France.
Rennes manager comments on Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool
The deal is yet to be confirmed, but Rennes head coach Habib Beye has now commented, as per Le Telegramme.
He said: “This deal is not done, I don’t want to comment on something that is not real, it’s a supposition.
“He will not be here for training today, we don’t know if he can play tomorrow but we’ll see depending on the situation.”
While Beye was coy regarding the transfer, he did suggest the situation was the best they could have hoped for.
He continued: “The fact of negotiating his transfer now and obtaining the sum that the club wants, (respecting) the player’s wish and still having him (for the end of the season), is perhaps the best deal we can have.”

Transfer deal sheet explained
Whether Liverpool will announce Jacquet by the 7pm deadline remains to be seen.
But fans need not worry if they don’t, as a deal sheet can be submitted to give clubs more time.
The deal sheet must be filled in during the final two hours of the window, so after 5pm on Monday, and must be submitted prior to the deadline of 7pm.
After the Premier League receives the sheet, teams then have a further two hours to finalise the transfer and submit paperwork.
