Liverpool have ended the 2026 winter transfer window with one first-team addition who won’t play until next season.
The Reds missed out on a right-back signing last week amid their ongoing defensive injury problems.
Fans also had to watch long-time target Marc Guehi move to Manchester City earlier in the window.
But there was finally some positive news late in the window, with Jeremy Jacquet deciding to join Liverpool ahead of Chelsea.
CHANGE MY MIND: This WILL be Liverpool’s best XI after Jacquet arrives!
Jacquet completed a medical on Monday evening, and a few hours later, his addition has been confirmed in a statement on the club website.
Liverpool confirmed: “Liverpool have reached an agreement for the transfer of Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais, with the defender set to join the club ahead of the 2026-27 season, subject to a work permit and international clearance.”
Liverpool fans react to Jeremy Jacquet signing
Now, using Rousing The Kop’s TalkingPoints platform, fans have had their say on the deal.
Some are upbeat about his addition, others suggested a new signing was needed now, while questions over where Jacquet will fit into the backline have been raised.
One fan wrote: “Club must be convinced to pay £60m for him, but would really like to see a more experienced player come in as an immediate starter. Jacquet + Leoni for the future looks exciting though, can’t lie.”
A second added: “Could be like Ekitike and hit the ground running and be a real asset or have a season like Frimpong who is great when he can play but so far has had 2 hamstring injuries and now out with a groin strain or like Kerkez taking a while to find his feet but is now improving.”
“I have high hopes, when you’re that highly rated in one of the best national team setups it’s hard not to get excited,” commented a third.
Another suggested: “Liverpool need a CB now! 60m on this lad too. Crazy. Since when does he warrant that fee. Surely there’s better CBs available for that price now. Guehi was a big miss. Should have signed him.”
“Good for the future but don’t know when he starts next season if Konate stays,” added a fifth.
A sixth Liverpool fan added: “Looks a player! More options at CB the better for Liverpool, and he’s one that can learn a lot from playing and training with VVD.”
What was Liverpool’s BIGGEST MISTAKE of the window? 👀
Have Liverpool made a transfer mistake?
Liverpool missed out on some big players during the winter transfer window, and as mentioned, Jacquet won’t be a Red until the summer.
It means that Slot will have to make do with limited options in his back four for the remainder of the campaign.
Jamie Carragher thinks Liverpool should have signed another defender who would actually be available this season.
Paul Merson also questioned Jacquet’s signing. But with the window now shut, Slot must try to keep this recent upturn in form going and get the club back in the Champions League places.
