Jeremy Jacquet is set to become Liverpool’s first signing in the summer of 2026.
Hope of a potential move for the centre-back seemed lost last week when it was claimed that Jacquet preferred to join Chelsea.
However, news then broke shortly before Deadline Day that Liverpool were pushing for the centre-back.
Jacquet is now expected to sign ahead of the 2026/27 season getting underway.
How good a signing do you think Jeremy Jacquet will be?
Meanwhile, previous reports have suggested Liverpool target Givario Read will be on the move in the summer.
Givairo Reed unlikely to join Liverpool
Tobi Altschaffl said in January that ‘the plan remains for the Read deal to happen in the summer’.
At the time, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Liverpool were all mooted as interested parties.
But now, Fabrizio Romano has shared a fresh update on Read, suggesting ‘Liverpool is an unlikely destination’ for the player this summer.
He said: “Givairo Reed, I can tell you that is a player Liverpool have been scouting, but Liverpool never sent a bid in this January window because the player will be out from what I heard for around two months with an injury.
“And so this is why Liverpool didn’t proceed. For the summer, my understanding is that there are two clubs in more advanced holds rather than Liverpool at this stage for Givairo Read. One is Bayern because Bayern are really pushing for Givairo Read, seen as an ideal candidate right back.
“And then also Manchester City are following the player. So I think Liverpool is an unlikely destination, but there is still plenty of time.”
CHANGE MY MIND: This WILL be Liverpool’s best XI after Jacquet arrives!
Can Jeremy Jacquet play right-back?
Aside from Read, it doesn’t appear as though Liverpool are looking at any other right-backs that closely.
That’s really not an ideal situation, given that all of Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley are injured.
It means Liverpool look set to spend the next few weeks at least without a senior right-back.
In the summer, meanwhile, Gomez could leave Liverpool with 12 months left on his contract.
Will the Reds sign a replacement? It remains to be seen, but Jacquet does have some very limited experience at right-back, featuring there on three occasions throughout his career.
And with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate expected to remain regular starters in 2026/27, the young stopper may well be afforded some minutes in the Gomez role initially.
