Liverpool welcome Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United to Anfield for a Premier League meeting on Saturday evening.

The Reds are backed to draw with Newcastle this weekend, which would see their wait for a first league win of 2026 continue.

Liverpool head into the weekend knowing that defeat against the Magpies could see them fall even further away in the race for Champions League football.

We are yet to win a Premier League game in 2026…

But Arne Slot knows his side struggle in the Premier League and has given a list of reasons why.

The Dutchman also provided a Liverpool injury update in his pre-match press conference.

Joe Gomez, Jeremie Frimpong, Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are all due to miss the fixture.

But in more positive news, Ibrahima Konate is back in training and available for selection, as is Curtis Jones.

Now, when sharing their own team news on their official website, Liverpool also provided an update on Newcastle’s squad.

When doing so, they confirmed that Howe will definitely be without four players for Saturday’s game.

They wrote: “The visitors will definitely be without Joelinton, Tino Livramento and Fabian Schar, while Emil Krafth has not played since November.”

Meanwhile, Howe has given an update on Bruno Guimaraes: “He did very, very light training. He trained with us yesterday but that was more of a test so we’ll see how he is today. This will be where we decide [for Saturday].”

Liverpool top-four chances before Newcastle

Regardless of who is available for both sides, it is imperative that Liverpool get back to winning ways on January 31.

A very tough outing against Manchester City awaits next week, so defeat on Saturday could leave Liverpool without a single league win in the first six weeks of the year.

That would put a major dent in their Champions League qualification hopes, which are already fading.

Opta’s supercomputer now thinks Liverpool will end 2025/26 in fifth place, giving them a 33.98% chance of qualifying for Europe’s premier competition.
