Liverpool have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton in recent months.
Like several areas of Arne Slot’s squad, the Reds are short of quality depth in midfield right now.
A potential Curtis Jones exit has been mooted during the January transfer window, while Slot isn’t starting Wataru Endo in the Premier League.
Name a Liverpool transfer window worse than January 2026…
In terms of potential signings the club could make to strengthen in the centre of the pitch, Wharton has been linked with Liverpool several times.
However, a move for the Crystal Palace midfielder has been played down. But another name has now been discussed this week.
Morgan Rogers mooted as Liverpool could look at midfielders
Speaking to The United Stand, journalist Ben Jacobs provided a transfer update on Liverpool.
When doing so, he spoke about potential midfield options and, while also playing down Wharton, mentioned Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.
He said: “Yeah, it’s kind of fake news that Liverpool have agreed a deal for Adam Wharton. I respect the reporting of others, but my info is that there’s no five-year deal. It’s not predetermined that Wharton is going to Liverpool.
“Crystal Palace, by the way, would love to extend his contract, but Wharton wants to play Champions League football.
“So, summer might end up being a natural parting of ways, but I’m not aware of Liverpool making a move yet for Adam Wharton. And I’ve said many times, I think if Liverpool look to add another midfielder, it might be someone more like Ndiaye, not Ndiaye, by the way, but more like his profile. And that’s where somebody like Morgan Rogers comes in.”
The former Middlesbrough talent has become one of Villa’s top stars, with reports saying the Midlands club value him at £100m.
Which missed centre-back transfer will Liverpool regret the most and why?
How Morgan Rogers would fit in at Liverpool
While Liverpool do need a midfield signing this year, Rogers probably wouldn’t be the ideal addition.
He’s obviously very talented, but is much better in the number 10 or left-wing role, not in the pivot where the Reds are lacking depth right now.
If he were to play as an attacking midfielder, it would mean that Dominik Szoboszlai would have to start elsewhere.
Similarly, using Rogers off the left would prevent Florian Wirtz and Szoboszlai from starting in the same eleven.
