A number of players shone as Liverpool beat Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille 3-0 in the Champions League.

In a rare turn of events, Arne Slot’s tactical tweaks allowed the Reds to dominate across a full match and secure a huge win.

Joe Gomez was handed a rare start and grasped his opportunity with both hands, putting in an excellent performance.

Liverpool fans were quick to praise Milos Kerkez as well, who impressed at both ends of the pitch in France.

However, when it came to deciding who was Man of the Match in the 3-0 win over Marseille, there was a clear winner.

Using Rousing The Kop’s TalkingPoints platform, fans voted between five players for the MOTM award.

Virgil van Dijk ranked fifth with just over 2% of the vote post-match.

The aforementioned Kerkez came in second place, with over 22% of the vote, but no player was anywhere near Dominik Szoboszlai, who was voted Man of the Match by nearly 50% of users.

But while Szoboszlai took the lion’s share of the votes, a number of players also earned plaudits.

One fan wrote: “Kerkez stepped up tonight too, Greenwood with little impact in the game aside from a couple decent efforts.”

“Joe Gomez! Guehi who???” commented a second Liverpool supporter.

Another echoed: “So many great performances, but that was vintage Bournemouth Kerkez.”

“Gomez was surprisingly really good, love to see it,” stated another.

While several fans were also quick to suggest that Jeremie Frimpong, who forced an own goal out of Marseille, deserved the award.

Dominik Szoboszlai responds to goal vs Marseille

The Hungarian missed a penalty in the 1-1 draw against Burnley this past weekend.

That followed on from Szoboszlai receiving some criticism following his action in the 4-1 FA Cup win over Barnsley on Monday.

But the midfielder is still Liverpool’s best player in the eyes of Steven Gerrard and has now taken to Instagram to react to his latest goal.

Accompanied by a photo of him celebrating against Marseille, Szoboszlai wrote: “Finally,” followed by two emojis.
