We knew the Marc Guehi to Man City official announcement was going to sting, but we weren’t expecting the Liverpool dig that followed.
At least we’ve been put out of our misery.
The Guehi to Liverpool saga has been dragging on since the summer, but the Reds can now put it behind them after the Crystal Palace captain chose to join Pep Guardiola for the rest of the season.
Liverpool’s declining transfer appeal was cited as a reason for Guehi going to the Etihad, as well as the rumoured £300,000 per week wages he was requesting.
BE HONEST: Which Premier League teams are more attractive transfer destinations than Liverpool?
In any case, he won’t be coming to Liverpool, and hasn’t hesitated in showing where his loyalties now lie.
Marc Guehi’s first words after snubbing Liverpool for Man City
The announcement came from Man City’s official channels on Monday afternoon.
We were expecting it anyway, but seeing Guehi in the sky blue colours of our most bitter rivals over the past decade stung all the same.
Included in the announcement was a statement from the new City defender.

He said: “I am really happy and incredibly proud to be a Manchester City player. This move feels like the culmination of all the hard work I have put into my career.
“I am now at the best club in England and part of an unbelievable squad of players. It feels good to be able to say that. I want to grow as a player and a person, and I know at this club that’s going to happen.”
The best club in England, you say?
I wonder if he felt that way six months ago after completing his Liverpool medical. Maybe his perspective has changed.
An uncharacteristic transfer calamity from Liverpool
There’s no point sugar-coating it. This was a disaster for Liverpool.
We desperately needed this player, and yet he will be lining up for the enemy now.
Which missed centre-back transfer will Liverpool regret the most and why?
The circumstances in January might have made the move unfeasible, but he should have been at Anfield last summer. Liverpool’s laissez-faire approach didn’t give Palace enough time to plan, and so the move fell through in the final hours of the window.

Under FSG, the recruitment department has been excellent. This is a rare loss, but a significant one that is going to sting — especially after that jarring first statement.
