Hugo Ekitike was once again impressive as Liverpool clashed with Burnley in a Premier League meeting.

Ekitike matched Kenny Dalglish in the record books earlier this week when he came off the bench to score against Barnsley.

The Frenchman is Liverpool’s top goalscorer this season and he was crucial to Florian Wirtz opening the scoring on Saturday.

Ekitike made a marauding run down the left before he cut inside and the ball eventually found its way to the German to smash home.

Now, his actions against the Clarets have prompted calls for a new role for the striker in the coming months.

Liverpool fans eye position change for Hugo Ekitike after Burnley

Liverpool spent big money on Alexander Isak this past summer, but form and fitness issues have hampered the Swede.

In his absence, Ekitike has more than stepped up to the plate as the primary number nine.

However, many fans are now ready to see the former Eintracht Frankfurt man deployed off the left once Isak is back from injury.

One fan wrote: “World class. Bro, I need Ekitike on the left when Isak is back. When he has space, he is…”

“We need to hold Ekitike as a left wing attacker when Isak gets back to fitness,” stated another.

Another demanded: “If Isak is ever fit you just put Ekitike on the left. Drop Gakpo…”

A fourth commented: “Ekitike off the left and Isak up top is the one.”

“Ekitike could play on the left with Isak central,” added a fifth Liverpool fan.

Another stated: “It’s actually criminal we never tried Ekitike on the left instead of Gakpo and Isak up front, it’s painfully obvious that was the way to go.”

When is Alexander Isak back from injury

For the time being at least, Ekitike will remain as Liverpool’s main centre-forward.

Isak is out of action for some time and is not expected to make his return until March.

When he does eventually recover, it’s likely the player, who missed pre-season and has already had one injury problem this term, will take some time to find both fitness and form.

In turn, we may not see the best of Liverpool’s new-look attack until the 2026/27 season.
