Liverpool fans haven’t had much to get excited about this season, but the form of one player has impressed many.
The Reds return to action against Burnley on Saturday, and the mood around the club remains low.
Liverpool reverted to type against Barnsley after it was hoped they had turned a corner with their second-half display against Arsenal last week.
There is even talk about Xabi Alonso replacing Arne Slot after what has been a trying first half of the season.
Yet, through all the disappointment, the form of Hugo Ekitike has been a rare bright spark.
Is Hugo Ekitike the most exciting attacking prospect Liverpool have had since Kenny Dalglish?
Liverpool fans back Hugo Ekitike for huge rise
It appeared as though the Frenchman was going to be acting as back-up to British record signing Alexander Isak this term.
But Ekitike has been brilliant for much of 2025/26 and has now received high praise from fans on Rousing The Kop’s TalkingPoints platform.
Asked ‘how high is Hugo Ekitike’s ceiling with Liverpool?’, one fan wrote: “Can become a Ballon d’Or contender.”

“He’s frightening; the sky is the limit for him,” suggested another.
A third added: “On course to be Europe’s best striker at some point.”
“Could become the best striker in the league, and why not Europe. Has everything,” echoed a fourth.
Another Liverpool fan commented: “Second best PL striker after Haaland right now, and only gonna improve.”
While a sixth questioned why Isak was brought to the club after Ekitike: “Makes you think, why did Isak need to be signed?”
And another wrote: “Such a talent, unbelievable feet and knows how to find the net. Let’s just hope he can stay fit for lengthy periods.”
What ONE word sums up Liverpool’s signing of Alexander Isak?
When is Alexander Isak back from injury?
While Ekitike’s start to life at Anfield is great to see, as one fan suggested, it does leave Slot with an Alexander Isak-shaped problem.
The Dutchman only really uses one central striker, even after a slight system change in late 2025.
This meant Isak was being used on the left prior to his injury against Tottenham Hotspur.
Considering the fee paid for the Swede, he should probably be the main man at Liverpool, but Ekitike’s displays mean that it is currently not practical to move him out of his preferred position.
However, it’s an issue Slot will not have to contend with for some time, as Isak is expected to be out until March of this year.
