Liverpool await Real Madrid decision on possible Marc Guehi alternative

If Marc Guehi is to end up elsewhere, Liverpool might look to a centre-back who Real Madrid are undecided on.

Until such time as the Crystal Palace defender becomes unattainable, he remains priority number one in the eyes of Liverpool.

Guehi wants to join Liverpool, but he could be sold before that becomes possible.

The Reds are eyeing him for next summer, but if a club comes in for him in January, other options are already being looked at.

Liverpool interested in Como defender Jacobo Ramon

Cesc Fabregas’s Como side is full of young talent.

Signed from Real Madrid just a few months ago, Jacobo Ramon is one of Europe’s bright young centre-backs, and a player who is attracting interest from Liverpool and Chelsea.

There is a problem, though. The Spanish giants will have the final say in any transfer for the 21-year-old.

As CaughtOffside report: “The Spanish defender is under contract until 2030, a long-term deal that reflects how highly Como rate him. However, crucial clauses included in his contract mean any transfer is far from straightforward.

“Real Madrid inserted an €8 million buy-back option and a 50% sell-on clause when they allowed him to leave, ensuring they maintain significant influence over Ramón’s future.”

Recognising the level of talent they were letting leave, Madrid made sure to cover themselves when negotiating with Como for the academy product.

They may yet decide to buy him back from the Italian outfit for a bargain price.

Ramon is not a suitable alternative for Marc Guehi

Liverpool fans won’t be too thrilled at the prospect of Ramon instead of Guehi.

The Spaniard is brimming with quality, sure, but he is inexperienced at the top level.

Man City are edging toward signing Guehi, and there is every chance he lines up for the opposition when they come to Anfield in a few weeks.

Ramon is an interesting option, but there is a risk of ageing down the defence too much and losing that leadership at the back.

No one would be too upset to see him come through the door. However, if Liverpool are serious about contending for trophies, Guehi feels like a no-brainer.
