Liverpool desperately need a short-term option upfront and they might not need to look any further.

The Reds spent big in summer on two new strikers, but Alexander Isak will be out for quite a while with a fractured leg, leaving only Hugo Ekitike as an out-and-out option.

The workload has already been too much on the Frenchman, though, as he had to miss Liverpool’s game against Fulham with a slight hamstring issue, highlighting their need for more depth.

A short-term fix seems the most likely, with there being many stars who they could sign on loan until the end of the season, with there being one who might just be about to become available.

Liverpool have the chance to sign Callum Wilson until the end of the season

The Reds need someone who is ready to hit the ground running and is capable of making an impact off the bench, and Callum Wilson fits this criteria.

According to The Athletic, Wilson is in talks to leave West Ham just five months after signing a one-year deal, mainly because they have signed two strikers already during the window.

A termination of his contract is expected to follow soon, making him a free agent and handing Liverpool the perfect chance to get a Premier League-proven striker.

What makes him even more appealing is that his contract at the Hammers was heavily incentive based, meaning he got a very low weekly salary, but a decent goal bonus.

This is exactly the type of contract Liverpool would be looking for as they do not want to spend too much money after the summer, but would happily pay out should he contribute by putting the ball in the back of the net.

Wilson has four league goals this season in just over 800 minutes, showing that he still has a bit to give, and at 33, a six-month loan deal seems like a good option.

Callum Wilson’s injury record might let him down

Everyone knows the talent Wilson possesses in front of goal as he showed that at both Bournemouth and Newcastle, but it is his injury record that has let him down.

He has missed 195 games in nine seasons, but 57 in the last two years, showing that they have not been improving either, suggesting it is a big risk.

However, he is yet to pick up an injury in the first half of this season, suggesting it might be a gamble worth taking, especially given that they would hardly have to pay him if he did become unavailable.

Wilson signing for Liverpool might not be the most attractive move for fans, but it might just help cover for a little while, so making it happen might be the sensible option.
