Although he was not terrible, he certainly lacked the presence of an out-and-out number nine and did not make as many runs in behind as someone like Ekitike, with his goal also a stroke of luck.
This highlights the issue Liverpool have when the Frenchman is injured, with the alternatives not enough to win them games, which could not be said in the past.
Even Luis Diaz last season deputised well, but Gakpo does not quite have that ability, showing how the Reds need to sign a striker in January to help Ekitike with the workload.

Can Liverpool take any positives from the draw at Fulham?
Someone like Jayden Danns would have been a good option at this point in time as Liverpool need a striker who is willing to play second fiddle, but his injury record means that will not happen.
Due to the money they have spent on strikers in the summer too, it is unlikely they sign a fairly big name, meaning a short-term loan might be the best option.
They do not usually make this type of signing, but it might have to happen just until Isak returns, which could still be a fair few months away.
Slot confirmed that Ekitike’s injury was picked up due to playing too many minutes, and Gakpo just is not a striker, so this problem will persist unless they dip into the market.
