Liverpool have money to spend in the 2026 January transfer window, but which positions they could strengthen is up in the air.
Despite the huge summer outlay from the Reds, FSG could drop £100m this month and still be fine from a PSR perspective.
At present, Liverpool are close to confirming one signing, agreeing a deal for Ifeanyi Ndukwe.
Who are you picking as Virgil van Dijk’s centre-back partner next season?
However, the defender is only 17 and will spend the remainder of 2025/26 away from Anfield before linking up with the club this summer.
When and if a senior signing will be made remains to be seen, but Joe Cole and Peter Crouch both know which area needs to be targeted.
Joe Cole and Peter Crouch send Liverpool transfer message
One of the primary problems Liverpool faced this season, when they won just three in 12, was conceding too many goals.
Ibrahima Konate has been poor at times, while fans have questioned Virgil van Dijk.
However, Giovanni Leoni is ruled out for the season, and Joe Gomez, when he was fit, has been needed at right-back.
In turn, Slot has had very little cover at centre-back for much of the season so far.
Now, both Cole and Crouch have been asked to name the main area Liverpool should strengthen this winter when speaking to TNT Sports on X and TikTok.
And the ex-Reds both agreed that Liverpool need to sign a centre-back.
Joel Ordonez to Liverpool latest
One man who could fill the void Crouch and Cole think needs addressing is Joel Ordonez.
How happy would you be if Liverpool sign Joel Ordonez?
A move is reportedly on the verge of being sealed!
Some reports earlier this week claimed that Ordonez was on the verge of joining Liverpool, with a deal thought to have been close.
However, more recent updates suggest that is actually not the case.
Fabrizio Romano commented on Ordonez to Liverpool on Friday, saying that the Reds are scouting the centre-back, but no transfer has been agreed.
He said: “Many questions on Joel Ordonez with reports saying that a deal is already done with Liverpool.
“What I can tell you guys is that the relationship with Liverpool and Brugge is very good, it’s an excellent relationship, this is what I’m told. But at the moment Liverpool are scouting Ordonez, as they are scouting many players, but nothing done or agreed at this stage.”
