Liverpool are usually rather shrewd in the transfer market, but they do not always get things right.
The Reds need reinforcements in January due to a lack of depth and injuries, but as of yet, they have not made an approach for anyone.
This will worry Liverpool fans with the transfer window right around the corner, especially as some of the players they have been linked with are being snapped up already.
Liverpool can only sign ONE player this January, which position should they strengthen?
There is one in particular who looks like he will be on the move very shortly too, and Jermaine Pennant cannot believe that the Reds have not made an approach for him despite being a perfect fit.
Jermaine Pennant cannot believe Liverpool are letting Antoine Semenyo join Man City
The main name that has been linked with a move to Anfield has been Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, but that appears to have fallen flat on its face.
Man City appear to be his preference and they are intensifying their efforts to sign him, with it looking like the Reds will miss out without even making a real attempt.
This is something former Red and Liverpool fan Pennant cannot believe, with the Englishman sure that he should be the heir to Mohamed Salah’s throne.

“As a Liverpool fan, I am really disappointed on the back of Isak getting injured, Salah being at AFCON and we don’t know what is going to happen with him, is he going to be leaving?” he said on talkSPORT.
“For £65m, in this day and age and for a player of Antoine Semenyo’s quality, you would say it’s a bargain.
“As for Liverpool not to be interested or make an approach to Bournemouth, it’s really stupid. He could be a player who could replace Salah long term as well.
“You need someone Premier League-proven, that is absolutely vital. You see players come over to this league and can’t really cut it, but we know he can.”
Who else could replace Mohamed Salah from the Premier League?
With Antoine Semenyo looking unlikely, which forward should Liverpool sign instead?
They need someone to fill in for Isak 🤕
Pennant is right by saying that signing a Premier League-proven player is the way forward, but the issue is who could that be?
Anthony Gordon is a name who has been linked despite mainly playing on the other flank, while Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh has also been rumoured.
Jarrod Bowen has very loosely been touted, but given that he is 29, he does not really fit the profile Liverpool would be looking for.
Other than that, Semenyo felt like the best option, suggesting the Reds might have to look abroad, although it will be a big gamble that will likely cost more than £65m.
