Liverpool loanee is no longer in manager’s plans, he could leave in January transfer window

Harvey Elliott isn’t the only Liverpool loanee struggling for regular starts in the 2025/26 season.

Elliott was upset by his Anfield exit and was in tears when he departed to move to Aston Villa.

It’s fair to say that his time in the Midlands has not gone to plan so far, and a permanent move looks unlikely.

Who has been Liverpool’s best player in 2025?

Unai Emery suggested Elliott won’t be joining on a long-term basis, and it remains to be seen what will happen to the Englishman once the January transfer window opens.

An Anfield return could be on the cards, while another on-loan player could also be forced to head back to Liverpool.

Kostas Tsimikas falls out of favour at AS Roma

Kostas Tsimikas joined AS Roma on loan for the 2025/26 campaign, but has endured a difficult spell so far.

He has so far made seven Serie A appearances for a total of just 242 minutes.

Tsimikas did provide an assist on his Europa League debut for the club, but has done little else of note since moving to Italy.

Now, the Liverpool defender is one of three players who could leave the Serie A outfit in January 2026.

Taking to X/Twitter, journalist Nico Schira wrote: “Evan Ferguson, Leon Bailey and Kostas Tsimikas are not in Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans and they could already leave AS Roma in January’s transfer window.”

Kostas Tsimikas comments on Liverpool

Unlike Elliott, Tsimikas has not played for Liverpool at any point this season.

This means he is still eligible to feature for another team in the 2025/26 campaign.

Alternatively, he may wish to remain at Anfield for the second half of the season and fight for his place.

What will happen to the full-back remains to be seen, but Tsimikas has made his love for Liverpool clear.

Speaking late last month, he said: “I miss the city. I lived there for five years. I love everything in Liverpool.

“They have a special part of my heart. The people are very kind, some of the kindest I’ve ever met in football.

“They’d always try to support the team, in good, in bad, they would always do their best to try to help you.

“I want everything for this club, because from day one, I was fully committed there. I was the Greek Scouser, and I always will be, I’ll keep it for my whole life.”
