Cole made the move to Liverpool in 2010, signing from fellow Premier League outfit Chelsea after winning the league title in the previous season.
However, the former England international was released by the Reds in January 2013, with it reported by the BBC at the time that he was actually given a £3m payout to leave.
Now, after making just 42 appearances and struggling on Merseyside, Cole has admitted he wishes he had never signed for Liverpool.
Speaking to LIFEJACKET, he said: “I think if I’d have had my time again, I’d have probably gone and this isn’t disrespectful to Liverpool, I’d have probably gone abroad somewhere and tried that, because I loved it.
“I loved that experience when I did do it. But it was a difficult time for the club and I genuinely, I was excited about joining.”

As already mentioned, Isak is currently heading down a similar path to Cole.
That may change in the remainder of 2025/26, but it’s hard to see him coming good while Hugo Ekitike is leading the line so well.
The Frenchman already has seven Premier League goals this season, and Cole thinks Ekitike will be better than Isak at Liverpool.
Speaking in October, he said: “I think Ekitike outplays him [Isak] over the next two years.
“Isak misses football games, he gets a few injuries, he’s not robust enough where he’s there every week.
“When you’ve had an injury, and you’re Newcastle’s No. 9, you might have until the second game back to get up to speed. And then you bang in your goals.”
